Governor Category:

Co-Opted

Position / Link Responsibility:

Chair of Governors

Safeguarding and Data link governor

Background information:

My family moved to RAF Leeming in October 2006 following my husband’s posting from RAF Leuchars and was elected as a Parent Governor in July 2008. I became a governor as a way of becoming more involved in my children’s education as I feel strongly that parental involvement in a child’s education can greatly influences a child’s progress and attainment. I have three children, two of whom attended Leeming RAF CP School, from years 1 and 3 through to year 6. All three of my children have attended Bedale High School.

As a member of the Governing Body, I am the link Governor for Safeguarding and Data monitoring. As Chair of Governors, I also take a lead role in the Performance Management of the Headteacher. I have also been involved in the recruitment of teaching staff.

Since 2007, I have been employed firstly, as a Parent Support Adviser and currently as a Family Outreach Worker, with North Yorkshire County Council’s Children and Families Service; with both positions requiring me to work closely with children and families in a supportive role. Prior to this, I worked with a national voluntary organisation, also supporting children and families.

I am currently completing a degree in Working with Children Young People and Families with York St John University. I am also a member of the Bedale and Aiskew running club and lead a group of beginner/improving runners.

Co-Opted Governor

Position / Link Responsibility:

Vice Chair

Pupil Premium Governor

PE and Sport Governor

Background information:

As a proud member of the Royal Air Force for the last 31 years, I am privileged to be able to support Leeming RAF Community Primary School as a governor.  I started as a Parent Governor in 2012 before moving over to become a Co-Opted Governor and  a Vice Chair of the Governing Body in 2015.

The majority of our children are from military families and invariably experience the regular upheaval of movement in line with postings.  As a governor and parent, I am passionate about providing the best education we can for our children, developing them and helping them become the best they can whilst they are with us at Leeming.

With a son in year six at the school, I  have seen him grow as a student and young person over the last 4 years due to the excellent work of our teaching staff.  I get great reward from being a governor by seeing the real benefits to my son through the efforts of the school.

As Link governor for Pupil Premium and PE & Sport Premium, it is my job to ensure that the school uses this additional funding wisely and inline with government guidelines to help our children fulfil their potential by giving them every chance to succeed.

As a secondary role within the governing body, I act as Training Governor ensuring that our governing body is appropriately qualified and trained to carry out our remit providing strategic leadership and accountability in the school.

In my spare time, when work and my wife allow, I enjoy the peace and quiet of Road Cycling and Archery and also a good history book.  I am also currently the Group Chairman of a local Scout Group.

Position / Link Responsibility:

Vice-Chair

English and Science Link

Background information:

I became a Co-opted Governor at Leeming RAF CP School in May 16 following the relocation of my family to North Yorkshire in Dec 15. Previously residing in Hampshire, I was elected as a Parent Governor at Bordon Infants School. Fortunately I was a Governor in an extremely forward leaning Local Authority which invested heavily in Governor training. I specialised in Finance and Resource, quickly appointed to Chair the schools Finance sub-committee. Bordon Infant School faced the same exceptional mobility Leeming RAF CP School does today, and I am well versed in looking at the strategic challenges this brings. I am Local Authority trained in School Recruitment and Child Protection.

Honoured to be elected as Vice Chair of Leeming RAF CP School in Nov 16, I look forward to supporting the Chair and Mr Campbell in delivering an exceptional learning environment for our children. I am also fortunate to regularly meet with some exceptional educators at the three monthly Swaledale Alliance Chair of Governor Meetings; our ties with the local community have never been stronger.

I feel that ultimately all Governors and Staff are accountable to you, the Parents and Guardians. During my tenure as a Governor at Leeming CP School, I am keen to engage with as many Parents, Guardians and Children as possible. I love hearing about how our exceptionally committed Staff faculty consistently engage, motivate and inspire our Children to meet their full potential.

I am married to Helen, and my daughter Claudia also attends our school. Ewan will join Reception in the Autumn term of 2018.

Headteacher (ex-officio)

Position / Link Responsibility:

N/A (Staff)

Background information:

I took up post as headteacher here at Leeming RAF in April 2016. Prior to that, I served as the headteacher of Ravensworth CE Primary School, in the north of the county, for the previous 3 years. I lived in Northumberland before moving to Yorkshire, where I worked as the sole teacher on Holy Island, and as an SLT member at the mainland school of Lowick. I’m passionate about education, particularly the way in which giving children a positive start to their early school life can shape their attitudes to education as they grow older.

As headteacher, rather than having a specific link governor responsibility, I’m required to have a strategic overview of the whole school, particularly of ways to drive school improvement. In addition to the work I do within Leeming, I also work more widely with schools in the Swaledale Teaching School Alliance as a consultant headteacher, advising primarily on the area of Assessment. I lead the Alliance’s work in this area, and also sit on their steering group.

I am married to Zoe, also a Primary Teacher. We are kept very busy with our jobs (!) but love to get out into the mountains of the Lake District whenever possible!

Behaviour, Welfare, SMSC and School Improvement

Background information:

I took up my appointment as Officer Commanding Base Support Wing RAF Leeming in June 2016 and was accepted as the LA Governor in September taking over from my predecessor, Wing Commander Rich Neasom.  Having started my 29th year in the RAF, my assignments have been many and varied from serving on The Queen’s Flight at RAF Benson in the early 1990s, serving in Naples, Italy in 2001, to working with the US Marine Corps in Afghanistan in 2010.  Key roles in which I have experience are Human Resource and Infrastructure management, accounting, welfare, and operational planning.  My interest in education stems from living it for the past 26 years with my wife being a primary school teacher.

I have link governor responsibilities for school behaviour, welfare, and SMSC and I will be working closely with the Chair of Governors and the Headteacher in helping drive forward School Improvement.  More widely I attend the Service Families Steering Group, chaired by our own Dep Headteacher and attend numerous Covenant board meetings with Education a key topic of discussion.

Married to Rachel, we have 2 children Oliver (18) and Harry (13) with our family home in Brampton, Cambridgeshire.  A very busy family life, particularly for Rachel, with me living away from home during the week, sees us enjoying the outdoors and travelling as often as possible.  A local ‘Yorkshireman’ from Whitby, it is so nice to be back ‘home’.

Position / Link Responsibility:

N/A (Staff)

Background information:

I have worked at Leeming since 2001 - joining the school as an NQT and I have been a governor for just over 3 years. I have worked across the school, teaching children from Reception to Y6 and can offer experience and knowledge across the full age range. I am passionate that children receive the best education they possibly can, whether they spend 1 term or 7 years with us. I think it is important that, as a school, we strive for the best through the reflection of our practice and an open minded approach.  My leadership responsibilities have grown over my time at Leeming and I am now the deputy head and currently lead on SEN, Maths, gifted and talented and EYFS.

Previously, I also worked as an Advanced skills teacher one day a week for the LA, supporting teachers in other schools, developing whole school practice and subject leadership and leading staff training in schools and for the LA.  I have now transferred these skills into the SLE role working on behalf of the Swaledale Teaching School Alliance. I am also the chair of the Nursery committee on camp and the LA Service Families Strategy group - offering additional knowledge and expertise to the governing body and the wider Service community.

I am married to Sean and have a 2 year old son, who keeps me busy when I'm not at work.  When I have time, I enjoy getting out on my mountain bike and making the most of the beautiful countryside on our doorstep and further afield.

Non teaching staff

Position / Link Responsibility:

N/A Staff

Background information:

I started as parent volunteering at this school in KS2 with Mrs Chase in 2006, rapidly progressing to MSA and supporting a child as there 1-1 part time. Continuing into a full time T.A role and completing my HLTA qualification. I am now actively working as ATA and HLTA in year 5/6.

I started my career in childcare, working in a private day nursery, followed by working in a MLD unit attached to a primary school in 1993. On marrying a military person in 1995, we were posted down south and I took up a post in a nursery school. With many moves I have worked in various schools always enjoying my role supporting children and helping them to achieve their individual potential.

As a Non-teaching governor I have the responsibility to offer a different point of view to the governors other than the SLT governors. When necessary I also sit on the FOS committee and attend meetings when and if I can.

I have been married (22yrs) to an ex-servicemen who completed 24 years in the Royal Engineers. I have travelled the length and breadth of the UK supporting him in his military career. We have two children Cerys (17) studying A-Levels at QE and Megan (13) studying G.C.S.E.s at Bedale high school. I feel I am able to bring the knowledge of a dependant, who has supported her husband and raised two children, who have attended many schools to my role as governor here in this school.
