 Key Stage 2

At Leeming RAF CP School we recognise that all children develop in individual ways, at varying rates. Every child is a competent learner who can be resilient, confident and self assured. All children will receive creative and innovative teaching and learning experiences.

In Key Stage 2 we provide an exciting curriculum, covering all the subjects in the National Curriculum: English, Maths, Science, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Geography, History, Religious Education, Design Technology, Art, Music, PE, French, and Personal, Social, Health and Citizenship Education (PSHCE, including Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)).

Children enjoy their learning; there are lots of opportunities for them to work together collaboratively, to solve problems, to think creatively and to complete practical tasks. Children continue to have opportunities for learning outdoors.

We encourage an enquiry based approach which gives opportunities for the children to scaffold their own learning and build their lifelong learning skills.  ICT is widely used to enhance learning experiences and develop children’s independence.

English, including phonics and reading and Maths remain a central part to teaching and learning and children will have daily opportunities to improve these areas.  Children have regular guided reading sessions and have individual reading books to share at home.  Our school scheme uses a range of products to support the learning of reading. Children also have the opportunity to borrow books from our school library.

We are currently in the midst of a full curriculum review; we have already clarified our Curriculum Intent for all subjects and further information about this will be appearing on our website soon. In the meantime, if you would like to discuss any aspect of our curriculum, please contact the office and the relevant subject leader will get in touch with you.

The curriculum at the school ensures full coverage of all elements of the National Curriculum.
